Certified inspector · NFPA 211

Chimney inspections, explained plainly.

We inspect chimneys across Boerne, Fredericksburg, Kerrville and the Hill Country, following the three levels in the NFPA 211 standard. Level 1 is always free.

Once a year, every year.

The National Fire Protection Association recommends a chimney inspection every year. Here's why.

It vents dangerous gases

Your chimney carries hot, toxic gases and carbon monoxide out of your home.

It runs very hot

Temperatures inside a chimney can top 2,000°F. Small cracks matter.

Creosote builds up

This sticky, flammable buildup causes most chimney fires. An inspection catches it early.

Level One

The annual checkup

What we check
A visual check of all readily accessible parts of the chimney, inside and out. We confirm the structure and flue are sound and free of obstructions and combustible deposits like creosote.
Right for
Annual checkups when nothing about your system has changed.

Free. Always.

Level Two

The deeper look

What we check
Everything in Level 1, plus accessible attics, crawl spaces and basements, and a video camera scan of the flue.
Right for
Buying or selling a home, after a chimney fire or storm, or when you change fuel type, appliance, or reline the flue.

Level Three

When something's hidden

What we check
Removing parts of the chimney or nearby walls to reach concealed areas.
Right for
When a serious hidden problem is suspected, so the right repair can be decided.

Good questions, plain answers.

A certified sweep should be able to explain all three clearly. If someone scratches their head, call Clean as a Whistle.
How often should I have my chimney cleaned?

The National Fire Protection Association recommends an inspection every year. Your chimney vents hot, toxic gases and carbon monoxide out of your home, and temperatures inside can top 2,000°F. A yearly check makes sure it's doing that job safely.

What's the difference between Level 1, 2 and 3 inspections?

Level 1 (free) is a visual check of all readily accessible parts, inside and out. Level 2 adds attics, crawl spaces, basements and a video camera scan of the flue. Level 3 removes parts of the chimney or nearby walls to reach concealed areas when a serious hidden problem is suspected. See all three in detail.

A certified sweep should be able to explain all three clearly. If someone scratches their head, call Clean as a Whistle.

What causes most chimney fires?

Creosote. It's a sticky, highly flammable byproduct of burning wood that builds up inside the flue. Burning unseasoned wood, restricting airflow, and cool flue temperatures all speed it up. Regular sweeping removes it before it becomes a hazard.
